new Mei location…. what?!

Hello all! Got some exciting news for y’all!

Mei Fitness is OPENING A NEW LOCATION IN KEYSTONE!!! The Keystone location is to be a sister replication of Southport’s location. So highly similar to the location I go to if your familiar with it. This is very exciting for anyone in the Broad Ripple, Carmel, Castleton, and even Meridian Hills! The proximity to the Fashion Mall is insane and so close!

I used to work up in the fashion mall for a good period of time which gives me some insight on what the traffic during the day is like. And let me tell y’all, it’s not a terrible area with traffic. I feel it can be a busy area depending on the time of day, but it always moves pretty quickly. There are several office buildings surrounding the gym so it stays pretty quiet during the day!

With construction and renovations of a close hotel going on in the general area of the fitness center people will be flowing into the gym while traveling and visiting! There is a new bridge being constructed looking to be completed in December as well!

Let’s talk about the view real quick though…. The new Mei Fitness has a beautiful lake front facing the gym. BUT not only the lake but a park is also right there! Perfect for meeting someone in the gym and saying, “I have somewhere we can go sit and chat!” If people still do that… (ha) but not kidding! I know after my workouts I’d definitly go sit and enjoy the beautiful view of the lake! Take a second to breath.

Did I mention this location is also 24 hours?? Honestly perfect for hard working people with late shifts in the mall or the office! When I worked at Castleton, I had some shifts that went from either 4am-noon or shits from 6-11ish. The new keystone location would have been amazing if I got off that late… Do I sound jelly…. Yeah, well maybe I am a bit!

I am so excited for the people who live on that side of town cause the gym opening in that area will rock y’alls world! I know how much I love the Mei Fitness on the south side so I’m confident this new location will be a success and a new love for people living/working in that area. Get ready guys! Y’all have a treat coming real soon! I’m talking this coming January, soon!

Enjoy!!

5 Things You Might Not Know About Me

  1. I have anxiety. I am in no way ashamed of it either. Anxiety is common in a lot of humans today, almost 40 million adults in the U.S. have this “disorder”. My anxiety comes out in different ways, in different situations. I get quiet, don’t speak for a while, sometimes its a day of very little talking. I sort through my thoughts, feelings, and emotions in the silence. I’m not a reactive person unless I’m put in a situation that needs reaction. So the silence is my friend when I have anxiety. The gym has been a big saving grace as well. Mei Fitness is where I go when I need to release my stresses, with the perfect environment to do so!
  2. I am a major fan of the water! This one is a bit more light, the rain, the ocean, any form of water is a place of peace for me. Thunder storms are my absolute favorites at anytime of day or night. I tend to sleep better in them. The water brings me a sense of calm which, if you follow the horoscope signs (don’t judge), I am a Pisces/ Aries so it makes sense! And side note, I do like the horoscope crap even though its pretty much a load of bull….. (have your own opinions on this!)
  3. My favorite movies are romanic comedies…. Typical female right? But again I am not ashamed! Friends with Benefits, The Other Woman, and The Proposal are my top three favorites and the best movies of time! If you don’t agree with me, I respect your poor choice in movies! (Kidding, but really though…) Also, recently I’ve become a fan of the bachelorette, this I am ashamed of, but it’s quite entertaining to me because the drama people allow into their lives and it’s occasionally fun to make fun of. (haha) Its becoming a guilty pleasure….oops.
  4. I have a BIG hate for social media… Shocker, maybe. However, I have always disliked it. Its not because I don’t think its’ a great tool. I do! What I dislike about it, is the insecurity and comparisons that come along with all of it. There can be a lot of secrets kept in the social media that we have today and ways to hide anything. However, I do believe that truth always comes out in one way or another, therefore, making this accusation isn’t something I tend to have fear or anxiety with in relationships. With it there can be drama, which is something I absolutely despise. I’m not a drama gal but if you have drama, I’ll listen and give you my honest advice but then I’m out of it. I have a way of seeing both sides of a situation wether I have met the other person involved or not, call it a curse but I’ve found to be quite useful. Social media is also a façade of actual real life. There is perfect in most the pictures i see which can in turn makes people think they have the perfect life. It’s a show boat for the life people don’t actually live. (However, there are people out there that have amazing accounts and great lives, we just don’t show the hard parts of our struggles.)
  5. I learn in a different way than other people. A class room is not my place of learning at all. I learn from real life experiences and short bursts of teaching. A class room is very frustrating to me because I can never follow the teacher if the material we are learning about isn’t something I can relate to the real world. Example: Math. It is an ABSOLUTE foreign language to me in the classroom however, if I have time to process, “Why do I need this, what am I looking for, and how is this going to give me the outcome I need in this real life situation?” then I am able to do basic math easily and figure out the formula I need in my head. But in the classroom when the professor teaches something new it all gets lost on me. I have a different way of processing the things I learn and if something is explained to me while I am working on a project, and understand where information came from and how it is needed, I can pick something up pretty quick. I just have to have all the facts of how it can be used and take a step back to think through it.

I hope y’all enjoyed this fun little piece of things you might not know about me. This was a fun one for me to do! I got the idea because my followers on instagram don’t truly see parts of me because i’m behind a screen so this was the perfect opportunity to share a few things you’d probably never guess about a_jacs.

5 Summer Shredding Tips!

We all want that summer bod. Summer time is for the pool, the beach, the lake and so forth! So naturally we want to feel confident and happy in a bathing suit!

While summer shredding is not on my plate, I am doing something a bit unorthodox. My plan this summer is to bulk. I’m doing this because I want to gain as much muscle as possible to shred when school starts back up. I’m doing this because I would really like to compete in a show this coming winter. However, I haven’t worked out all the logistics of it but that doesn’t change my plans for this summer.

For those wanting to shed some and get that bikini bod in shape, here are 5 tips I recommend.

  1. Get in the gym as much as possible, two times a day even. granted we don’t all have time for that…. MAKE TIME.
  2. Mixing cardio in with lifting. Fasted cardio in the am, so your metabolism speeds up through the day and lifting in the evening. Or both at one time. Also work those abs, use weights to do so. This will strain them and push you harder!
  3. Fewer calories but better nutritional value! Substitute that Twinki for nuts and a banana! Make this long lasting. Eat frequently yet, each smaller portions. PROTEIN PROTEIN PROTEIN!!!! This will fill you up, lower your hunger and speed your metabolism some. Keep a record of what you’re eating. Trust me, it keeps ya accountable…
  4. Get your rest! Your body needs time to recover and during the sleep time your body has time to rest.
  5. DO NOT keep track of your weight in numbers. My recommendation? Get rid of that scale you step on every morning and use that handy dandy little phone of yours to take a picture and keep track by how you feel from the beginning to the end. Know your body and recognize the changes. Use anything other than a scale. Weight in numbers isn’t the tell all.

I am not a nutritionalist nor am I a pro at these things but these are things that I do know and have done me wonders in the past!

Enjoy these tips! Enjoy the summer! Enjoy this life!

Houston bound

This will be a quick blog only because there’s not much on this topic. Considering I haven’t even gotten to Houston yet or even on the pane. So we’ll just make it short and sweet!

I got my workout in this morning with a bit of Bis and Tris at Mei Fitness. Great thing about the time I went is that there was barely anyone there! However, with the time I had, it was more of a burn out than anything because I was trying to get in and out. But made for a goodie workout.

Let’s jump into my adventure though, essentially, I’m heading to Houston for a training certification with Total Fit. Its a whole wellness approach meaning connecting the body, mind, and spirit as one in fitness. It’ll definitely be an interesting experience! There are two reasons why I’m excited. One, I’m excited because it’s in Houston, one of my top choices in geographic areas to live one day. Two, because this new experience will expand my knowledge in the fitness realm. I’ve always had a hard time in school. Simply because I don’t learn in that type of setting. However, I’m excited because this will be hands on and actually working more so than sitting back and listening.

I’ve always enjoyed working more than school and with this I’ll say that last year while in school I also worked about 40 hours per week. I learned much at this job and did my job pretty well, (don’t wanna hype myself up too much) but I always enjoyed interacting with humans and having set criteria on the job. Dont get me wrong, School is very important and I appreciate the opportunity to be able to go! But as my father pointed out, I enjoyed working much more.

The Houston trip will be a great experience with learning and experiencing new techniques. I will be broadening my horizons and this will potentially help with my future plans. The nerves though are kicking in big time. I will be in a new setting with several different humans that I am not familiar with. The bright side to that though is that I will make new connections and friends.

I’m sitting at the airport 2 hours early, working on this specific blog. Thank goodness for having a drink while writing it! And DO NOT get me wrong, I’m not much for a day drinker, but when you get here 2 hours early and you have nothing better to do but drink and type out a blog you’re gonna just do it, especially when you’ve been stressing about the trip the last 36 hours….

I’m gonna wrap this blog up and try and get some other stuff done before my flight but I just wanted to fill y’all in on where ill be over the next few days. I plan on writing about the experience I have as I’m there in my free time. But I’m not sure how well that’ll go if I’m trying to sight see as well. It’s an adventure so who the heck knows what I”ll be doing!

Gym Bag Necessities

Easter weekend my gym bag got stollen, which was very upsetting due to the stupid (very stupid) emotional attachment I had to that bag. Now I say it’s stupid because it’s hard to love something that doesn’t love you back. However, I am that person who carries my gym bag all around the gym with me. It’s sort of a comfort thing or security blanket, I suppose. At Mei Fitness though, it’s a normal thing. Where as other gyms it can seem weird to carry my bag around with me because other gyms generally don’t. Well, I’ve never been a trend follower. In this bag I had a few things of importance and expense but the thing about it is, it’s all replaceable and I hope whoever took it finds better use for it than I did. (or just makes the money they need from it.) Material things don’t matter, it’s the hearts of those around you and the happy times with the people who truly love you and you love back.

However, I thought it’d be a great idea to share with y’all what I will be putting in my new bag as I had in my last one.

  1. First things first, a spring snap link for my keys and gym tag!
  2. Beats Solo Wireless Headphones (music is life, but I’ll have to save up for this investment)
  3. Resistance bands (Buffbunny collection coming in May!!!!!!!! EXCITEMENT!)
  4. Mini deodorant (Because sometimes you forget to put it on at home, lets be honest)
  5. Small makeup bag for the little things I carry in my bag
  6. Hair tie (duh, because my dumb butt forgets it every now and then)
  7. Tampons… (sorry men, its nature)
  8. Squat Belt! (Ordered mine from amazon in a size S)
  9. Water bottle. (I generally have one bottle dedicated to water)
  10. An extra set of regular ear buds just in case
  11. Lotion (because flaky legs aren’t cute)

I feel like I’m missing a few things but this is the gist of it all. I never really carry makeup or hair stuff in my bag because I never have felt the need too. It’s the gym, who cares? I also rarely put supplements in my bag, they take up A LOT of space and if those got taken I wouldn’t be too fond of it. Things are all replaceable. memories stay with you even if something is gone.

finding truth in growth

I’ve been in the fitness arena for most of my life. I’ve noticed how competitive it can be. When we are young we can be prone to think working out is mostly about body appearance and beauty. What we do not look at is the simplicity of growing older. We are young!! Why think about the future?

Well because, one day you’ll wake up in your 50’s or 60’s and think where am I? But not in the “what place is this”. It will be the, where am I; emotionally, physically, mentally, spiritually. You may ask yourself, “where has the time gone?’, “Am I happy?”, “Do I have inward peace with myself and those around me?”. And right now you may be asking why is this relevant to me? Well because, what you do now in your 20’s and 30’s, paves the way for when you reach your 50’s and up.

As we grow older life tends to humble us so deeply. You start to look back at things that seemed so important, that is now nonsense. You will think you wasted that time, caring for something of much less importance to you now. But the truth is, we grow older to experience things that matter and in time do not. Our values change, our importance on things, change. Our understanding of situations change, and we are able to apply them. Our lives are spent learning how to love, to be brave, to stand tall in your faith, and how to be a help to others. The lives we live grow like the Redwood Tree. They grow 12 to 24 inches per year, according to an article by Sarah Moore. Reading this made me believe that we are similar due to our constant change, and constant growth. We grow within ourselves and in others, never not learning more about the language of the world.

Looks disappear, it becomes more focused on how you feel. Time slips away so quickly and thats why the now matters. How you take care of yourself now will determine your future. None of us stay young and beautiful. However, beauty isn’t all skin. It’s the heart that really catches the attention of others. Are you building relationships with the people around you? Are you eating what your body needs, nutrition wise? Are you giving your body the exercise that it needs every day? It might not be your passion but doing something, anything, can increase your overall satisfaction within your life.

My goal is to inspire others, as well as to feel comfortable in my own skin. My aspirations also include having a love for something that is so good for me that I can carry throughout life. This is one outlet for all emotions and a way to be healthy in the future. I want to feel good on all levels when that day comes when I am in my 50s. I want to wake up and thank myself for what I have been doing all my life to be where I will be in 30 some years.

I challenge you to think about 5 ways to increase your living now, so that when you grow older you can have the quality of life you deserve. For example, a few changes to make could be, getting more active, drinking more water, eating things that are nutritious, complementing a stranger, or showing love to people around you because, there is a chain reaction when something so simple as a smile happens.

Peace and blessings!!

LIFE ISN’T PERFECT

Hey guys, these past two weeks has been hectic but great! Let me explain why… I’ve been working on cleaning up my diet, my OCD has kicked in, so the house has been completely clean, I’m back on my regular schedule at the gym, 6 days a week and I’m all set for next semester with classes.

Talk about some craziness. I have a slight version of OCD and when I get into that zone it doesn’t stop, it will go until my body is exhausted and can’t take the stress. If any of y’all have OCD you can understand what I mean. It comes in waves, mostly when I need to keep my mind off things happening in life. We all deal with situations in different ways.

It feels almost as if I can conquer the world when I get into the zone! The house stays insanely clean, i’m in the gym right when I need to be, killing the workouts I think up in my head, I am able to keep up with classes and homework and get ahead. It keeps me focused on my goals, helps me to be on top of my to do list and helps me to keep my mind off unnecessary thoughts.

Another super positive part of where i’m at right now is that i’m starting to realize more of my goals and dreams. I’m starting to put into action the message of Wolfness. I’m preparing ideas and creating content that shares my message. I am so excited!!! I would like for women to see how the world has effected us, with each other and how we can change it one step at a time. We all have naturally beautiful hearts that can be covered up by the masses of hurt we all endure throughout life. We have the ability to change that.

These are all very positive outcomes and what life should be like every day. But let’s be honest, sometimes it doesn’t stay that way, other things in life get in the way of that focus. We get thrown a lot of curve balls that can cause ruckus in our lives, we just have to learn how to avoid getting knocked down.

My OCD also has a negative side to it though. As much as it helps me to finish projects and keep focused there are a few things that I should mention. This condition is a great avoidance mechanism. I mention how I am able to keep my mind off of unwanted thoughts, well that is me avoiding certain things I need to deal with. It inhibits me from fully coming to terms with uncontrollable situations. It’s great for keeping my mood stable, however, I also have a fear with loss of control. And sometimes when I let myself think through situations I feel like I am out of control. This is something I have to work on, and I have been through prayer. However, the OCD comes into play when I feel as if I am completely out of control. So it saves me, yet also disables my ability to deal with situations.

There wasn’t really a “point” to this blog. I just wanted y’all to see that my life gets crazy and we sometimes can’t control every factor. With the zone i’ve been in, I have accomplished much and I am thankful. Whatever you deal with in life, there is always a positive side to the curve balls life can throw your way.
